China Miéville
China Miéville is a busy man. Not only has he been writing two of the most widely acclaimed science fiction novels of the new millennium, but he has also been completing his PhD at the London School of Economics (which was "A Historical-Materialist Analysis of International Law and the Legal Form", god between us and all harm), and he stood as a candidate for the Socialist Alliance in the last British elections, where he was referred to by one newspaper as "The sexiest man in politics". He lost that one, but he has been winning heaps of awards for his writing. In the past three years, he has been nominated ten times for his first two novels. He won the Arthur C. Clarke Award, the British Fantasy Award, and the Amazon.com Editors' (Fantasy) Choice for Perdido Street Station, his second novel. The Scar, his third book, is due out in April from Macmillan. All of this leads us to believe he will make a fascinating and entertaining Guest of Honour for this year's convention.
No doubt due to his hectic schedule, China has never been to Ireland. We're delighted to be able to welcome him to Octocon, where we hope he will enjoy himself enough to return to us often.
